Poole Forge Day

Historic Poole Forge celebrates it's annual community day this Saturday, September 17th from 9:00 am -6:00 pm. This is a free family event with activities for both children and adults throughout the day. The recently renovated Ironmaster's mansion will be open for tours and the Conestoga and Gruber wagons will be out on the grounds for display Enjoyed by both adults and children alike, Penn's Woods Puppet Theater returns again, this time performing "Rumpelstiltskin Spins Straw into Gold". There will be four shows throughout the day - 10:00, 12:00 , 2:30 and 4:30. Ride the barrel train back to the Children's Arts and Crafts Pavilion area. Visit Phi's' wildlife display, with examples from our local mammals and reptiles, and new this year, we have a live raptor presentation and display . Children can create nature crafts with Arie's Twig Art or join Rebecca for art lessons. Learn bead craft and Native American history with Uma's storytelling and the Native American teaching table. The Antique tractor parade rides through the park at noon followed by the ever popular Turtle Race in the Conestoga Creek, where everyone hopes their turtle will be the first to cross the finish line. All day volleyball tournaments are played out in the ball field, with at least 27 teams competing this year. Browse through the arts and craft vendor area. Learn about of antique tools or attend a lime kiln lecture, highlighting our iron heritage. The day ends with the fiercely competitive Fireman's Tug of War, between our local fire companies. There will be live music throughout the day and this year we have a variety of food provided by Stampede Smokin' 'Barbecue, Hen House Grilling, and the Caernarvon Ladies Auxiliary. We also have ice cream from Lickity Split and beverages from Menno Tea.
