Police reports for week of Jan. 12

DRUG ARREST

On Jan. 4 at 3:08 p.m., New Garden Township Police were responding to a disturbance in the 1300 block of Newark Road when a person at the scene told officers they had witnessed a drug deal. Police arrested Jose Melendez-Santiago, 36, of Lancaster, Pa., and found that he had two small bags of marijuana. He was processed and released. A criminal complaint for drug violations has been filed against him in District Court.

STOLEN CHECKS

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale arrested Candace Lee Whisman, 26, of Oxford, on Dec. 29 after Whisman turned herself in and admitted stealing three personal checks and cashing them at a grocery store. She was charged with theft, receiving stolen property and access device fraud.

FALSE ID AND DRUNKENNESS

Kennett Square Police arrested Fidelio Hernandez-Hernandez, 28, of Kennett Square, on Dec. 25 after he ran across West Cypress Street at 1:54 a.m. with no shirt or shoes on. He was charged with giving false identification to police, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. Bail was set at $10,000 cash. Unable to post bail, he was taken to Chester County Prison.

PUBLIC DRUNKENNESS

On Jan. 3 at 10:51 a.m., New Garden Township Police found a man staggering in traffic on Hillendale Road, east of Sharp Road. Miguel Villa, 58, of Kennett Square, showed signs of intoxication and was taken to a safe location by police. A citation was filed against him for public drunkenness.

CAR THEFT LEADS TO ARREST

A black 2003 Toyota Corolla was reported stolen from the 300 block of Birch Street in Kennett Square on Dec. 14, and it was recovered on Dec. 18 by Pennsylvania State Police Avondale. During the initial theft report, a person who was interviewed by Kennett Square Police, Daniel Whitcomb, 29, of Kennett Square, was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant out of Florida. He was arrested and arraigned, and bail was set at $75,000. Unable to post bail, Whitcomb was taken to Chester County Prison.

BURGLARIES

A home on Media Road in Elk Township was burglarized on Jan. 7 between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., according to Pennsylvania State Police Avondale. The home was entered through an unlocked door, and two handguns and several pieces of electronic equipment were stolen. Anyone with information is asked to call trooper Revels at 610-268-2022.

Sometime between 6:30 and 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 23, $800 in cash was stolen from a home in the 100 block of West State Street, according to Kennett Square Police. The investigation is continuing.

DRIVER FLEES CAR CRASH

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale are investigating a one-car crash just after midnight on Jan. 4. Police say a 2004 Kia Optima was being driven east on West Hillendale Road in Kennett Township, went off the road and stuck a bridge railing, heavily damaging the car. The car was found about 150 feet past the bridge on the shoulder of the roadway, but the driver had fled.

ARREST IN THEFT

Kennett Square Police have filed theft charges against Michelle Dell, 38, of Kennett Square, for the theft of a purse containing an iPhone and $80 in cash that was stolen from a business in the 100 block of East State Street on Dec. 6.

DUI

Kennett Square Police arrested Scott Slesinski, 23, of Kennett Square, for DUI after a traffic stop in the 200 block of South Walnut Street on Dec. 13 at 1:07 a.m. He was released at his home pending a summons from District Court.

Kennett Square Police arrested Marco De Jesus-Cuevas, 28, of Kennett Square, for DUI after a traffic stop in the 500 block of Rosedale Road on Dec. 14 at 12:52 a.m. He was released at his home pending a summons from District Court.
