Explore classical music at the Kennett Flash

10/30/2014 12:50AM ● By Lev

The Kennett Flash presents the Serafin String Quartet in a concert series titled “Sip and Savor with the Serafins” on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m.

The one-hour themed collage concerts each explore one major work, the composer's influence, style and characteristic flavor, while also sharing examples from other works and commentary from the quartet's members.

On Nov. 5, the quartet presents “Nordic Journey,” offering information about Norway’s most celebrated composer, Edvard Grieg. Distinctive Norwegian idioms accent this work. The next concert, on Dec. 3, is “Viennese Classical Roots,” featuring Mozart's Quartet in d Minor, with samples from Haydn and Beethoven. This program explores how the roots of classicism, as shown in Haydn and Mozart, may be similar to the intensity and emotion more often identified with Romanticism.

The Kennett Flash is at 102 Sycamore Alley in Kennett Square. Tickets for “Sip and Savor with the Serafins” are $15 in advance and $18 at door. Doors open for an a la carte dinner menu beginning at 6:30 p.m. BYOB. Visit www.kennettflash.org for more information.
