Sixty youngsters with a passion for aviation recently attended the July session of the Future Aviators Summer Camp at the New Garden Flying Field in Toughkenamon. Campers came from all over the United States, including Texas, South Carolina, Virginia, New York and Ohio, for a full week of activities and hands-on learning.

Throughout the week, campers constructed their own airplane by using fabric, wood and metal; designed, built and flew their own balsa gliders; built and flew model rockets; learned the basics of pre-flight planning and navigation; attended the National Air and Space Museum and the Udvar Hazy Center at Dulles Airport in Washington, D.C.; conducted their own simulated flight; and took an introductory flight with a certified flight instructor.

The second Future Aviators Camp at the Field is scheduled for August 11-15. The camp is open to those in the 7/8-15-year age bracket. To learn more about the camp, call 610-268-2619 or e-mail jmartin@newgarden.org.
