New head of school at Upland Country Day School

The board of trustees at Upland Country Day School have announced the appointment of Thomas J. Reid as head of school and the election of three new trustees. Joining the 17-member board are Peter Thayer, Edwina (Evie) Dutton and Margaret Hamilton Duprey.
Reid has more than 25 years experience as a head of school. He was most recently the interim head of school at Palmer Trinity School, a 670-student, grade 6-12 school in Palmetto Bay, Fla. He was the President of the Association of Independent Maryland Schools and the vice president of the New York State Association of Independent Schools. While Reid’s chief responsibilities throughout his career have been in school leadership, he has also taught history and served as director of athletics and as an ice hockey coach. 

Peter Thayer joins the board of  trustees with more than 36 years of experience in independent schools. He is currently the head of school at St. Anne’s Episcopal School, a Pre-K through 8th grade independent day school in Middletown, Del. 

Edwina (Evie) Davis Dutton is well known in the international equestrian eventing community and is a longtime Upland committee member, serving on both the school’s development and capital campaign committees. Dutton is currently a business manager with Phillip Dutton Eventing LLC in West Grove.

Margaret Duprey owns and manages Cherry Knoll Farm in West Grove, an organization specializing in the breeding and development of Black Angus cattle. She is a philanthropist, serving as a trustee for multiple charitable and professional organizations. She and her husband Bob live in Wellington, Fla., and West Grove.

Departing this year from the Upland board of trustees are Kevin Conklin, Dr. Nina Gardner and Dr. Tom McCarter.
