Two men have been charged with assaulting their girlfriends in separate incidents in New Garden Township.

According to police reports, on June 9 at 4:39 a.m., New Garden Police responded to the 8800 block of Gap Newport Pike for a report of a domestic incident. The caller, Alfredo Rivera, 28, of Avondale, told police that he had been arguing with his girlfriend all night and he was concerned that she would tell police a false story after she ran away from him in a parking lot of a convenience store.

While police were at the home, Rivera's girlfriend arrived and told police that he had put a power drill to her head and threatened to drill holes in her head and dump her body in a pond. He also pushed and choked her, she said. She had a small wound on her right temple, and marks on her head and neck that supported her story.

Rivera was arrested on charges of aggravated and simple assault, making terroristic threats and harassment. He was arraigned and taken to Chester County Prison on $25,000 bail.

In a second incident, on June 15 just after 2 a.m., New Garden Police responded to a report of a domestic incident in the 900 block of Newark Road. Officers found Brian Buckley, 41, of Wilmington, Del., at the scene. He had red marks on his neck and cuts on his face. He said he had been attacked by friends of his girlfriend.

His girlfriend, who was intoxicated and upset, told police she had been drinking with friends after Buckley left her at the home after an argument. He returned and grabbed her by the hair, pushing her face into the grass and dragging her to his truck by her hair. Some of her hair was torn out in the assault.

Police determined that Buckley's injuries were sustained after the victim's friends tried to separate him from his girlfriend during the incident. Buckley was taken into custody on charges of simple assault and harassment. He was arraigned and released after posting 10 percent of $2,500 bail.
