New Garden Flying Field to host open house on June 14

06/11/2014 10:31AM ● By Acl

If you live in southern Chester County, chances are that you've driven past the New Garden Flying Field in Toughkenamon, and either you or a member of your family has admired the planes landing on the tarmac and thought that someday you would stop by for a visit.

If so, you may want to circle the date of Saturday, June 14, because that day, it will be all about you and your family.

Kicking off at 8 a.m. with a hearty pancake breakfast, the Flying Field will be holding an action-packed  open house that will feature an entire day of activities, including free discovery flights, as well as the opportunity for families to camp out that evening on the grounds of the air field – your choice of a tent, camper or motor home – while watching a screening of an aviation-themed movie beneath the stars. Campers will wake up on the morning of June 15 and be able to admire a World War II P-51 Mustang fighter plane, that will be on display at the Flying Field from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Have you and your family ever taken a discovery flight over southern Chester County? If not, climb aboard; the Flying Field will be giving free, first-come, first-served flights from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 14. Back on the ground, there will be an all-day gathering of antique cars on display; an R/C airplane fun fly; EAA Young Eagle flights; flight simulator rides; live music; a hot dog and hamburger lunch; and a community pot luck barbecue beginning at 6 p.m. that will lead into the evening movie.
