BURGLARY AND THEFT
The Franklin Mint Credit Union and the Atlantic Cellular AT&T store at 826 E. Baltimore Pike were burglarized overnight on May 18, according to Pennsylvania State Police Avondale. The adjoining units were broken into and about $16,000 in inventory from the AT&T store was stolen.
PEDESTRIAN IN TRAFFIC
New Garden Township police reported that on May 15, just before 7 p.m., a man was running in traffic in the 900 block of Newark Road, apparently trying to be hit by a car. He ran from one responding officer and ran into the side of another moving car. Juan Bedolla-Lopez, 28, of Toughkenamon, was taken into custody and found to be under the influence. He was cited and taken home after being examined for injuries.
Pennsylvania State Police Avondale arrested Clemente Vallejo Martinez, 49, of Wilmington, Del., on May 11 after responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle in the area of 592 Lake Road in London Grove Township. Police found Martinez in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
On the evening of May 17, New Garden police were dispatched to the 300 block of Scarlett Road for a report of an intoxicated person in front of a business he had been prohibited from visiting. Modesto Bernal, 51, of Kennett Square, was cited for public drunkenness and criminal trespass. Bernal has previously returned to the business several times, in violation of police orders.
On May 18 at 1:45 a.m., a New Garden Township police officer had to swerve his patrol car to avoid being struck by an approaching motorist in the 700 block of Newark Road. A traffic stop was conducted at Newark and Laurel Heights roads. The driver, Anthony Deeds, 32, of Newark, Del., had a marijuana cigar on the driver's side floor, and an odor of marijuana was detected in the car. Police said "additonal contraband" was found in the console when Deeds removed his paperwork. He was arrested on drug-related charges, arraigned and released on $15,000 bail.
Pennsylvania State Police Avondale are investigating the theft of a John Deere tractor from a home on Little Creek Road in East Nottingham Township sometime between May 16 and 19. The VIN for the tractor is LV4210H220033. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 610-268-2022.
Sarah Anne Neil, 28, of Landenberg, was arrested for DUI after a traffic stop by Pennsylvania State Police Avondale on May 14 at 3:18 a.m. on West Woodview Road in Penn Township.
On May 12, just before midnight, a New Garden Township police officer saw a car parked in the middle of a parking lot at Newark Road and Baltimore Pike. The driver was slumped over in his seat and the car was running. The driver, Isidro Tapia-Meza, 45, of Lincoln University, was holding an open can of beer. He failed sobriety tests and was taken into custody for DUI. He was released pending a court appearance.
On May 13, a New Garden Township police officer saw a vehicle swerving in the 800 block of Newark Road, crossing the center yellow line several times. After a traffic stop, driver Juan Oseguera-Ortiz, 45, of Kennett Square, was found to be DUI. He had his two daughters, ages 15 and 19, in the car as passengers. He admitted to having consumed three or four alcoholic drinks. He was charged with DUI, reckless endangering and endangering the welfare of a child. A court appearance is pending.
