Digital First Media, the owner of the Daily Local News and all of the former Journal Register Company's more than 75 daily newspapers, last week announced the closing of its centralized news-gathering operation in New York City, suggesting that its newspapers may be put up for auction once again.

The troubled chain of newspapers nullified an auction last year because of a lack of bidders. The chain has also endured two bankruptcies in the past 10 years.

The Daily Local News, based in West Chester, has downsized its staff many times, and its fate is unknown.
