Allene M. Caddell, 93, of West Grove, passed away on Feb. 13 at the Jenner’s Pond Retirement Community in West Grove.

Her husband, Jack R. Caddell, died in 2007. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Frank; and her brother, A. Clyde Eide.
Born in Oak Park, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Alwin C. and Mayme Johnson Eide. She graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in fine arts. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage. She enjoyed her childhood and teenage years on the family farm in Capron, Ill., especially during the summer months, spending time with brother Clyde and cousins, Ted and Marilyn, and other close aunts and uncles. In later years, she led a country life on a few acres with her husband, Jack, near Lewisville and Kemblesville for several years. Riding horses, loving her dogs, playing bridge, gardening, reading, playing the piano, watching wildlife and cooking delicious meals were her favorite pastimes. She was a skilled and avid bridge player and donated a lot of her time to teaching others about the game. On occasion she traveled to Europe and Asia with her husband when he worked for DuPont. Horses and dogs were a big part of her life. She spent a lot of time with her daughter, Karen, doing what she loved -- foxhunting, showing horses and just riding in the countryside. She always appreciated visits from her daughter, Karen, and her husband, John.

MIRIAM COLE

Miriam (née Brace) Cole passed away with her children around her on Feb. 14.
Born in 1926 in Washington D.C., she was the only child of Florence and Leslie Brace.  She grew up in Westfield, N.J., graduating from Westfield High School in 1944. While attending Gettysburg College, she met Herbert W. Cole, who attended college on the GI bill after returning from World War II in the Pacific Theater, as a fighter pilot. She graduated from Gettysburg in 1948 with a major in biology and a minor in math. She was offered a scholarship to attend graduate school at Columbia University, but a better opportunity arose when Herb proposed marriage.

They settled in Cedar Grove, N.J., and grew their family with the birth of their three sons, Douglas, Roger and Robert. The family moved to Caldwell, N.J., and then to Schenectady, N.Y., where their only daughter, Leslie, was born. Herb’s career kept the family moving. From New York, they moved to Valley Forge, Pa., then to Mountain Lakes, N.J., and to Wallingford, Pa. In 1975, they made their last move to Pompano Beach, Fla., to help Mim’s mother, who was ailing.

Mim was a dedicated, stay-at-home mom while her children were young, occasionally working as a substitute teacher and tutoring, while also volunteering to work with autistic children and at local hospitals, where both she and Herb were “pink ladies.” Mim also enjoyed the camaraderie of an office and returned to work full-time once her children were grown. She continued working until she was 82.

Herb passed away in 1983 and although Mim was only 56 at the time, she chose not to look for another partner, saying, “Once you’ve had the best, no others will do.”

She is mourned by her children, including Douglas and Cheri Cole, Roger Cole, Robert and Lisa Cole, Leslie Cole and Brad Edwards; her grandchildren, Desiree and Kenneth Guzman, Danielle Cole, Sarah Muhlenberg, Jt., Ben and Sam Cole; her great-grandchildren, Bella and Miranda Guzman; as well as her nieces, nephews and family friends.

A service will be held on March 15 at 11 a.m. to celebrate Mim’s life at the Edward L. Collins Funeral Home (86 Pine St., Oxford). Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Online condolences may be made at www.elcollinsfuneralhome.com.

He was born in Chester, the son of the late George and Alice (nee Nacrelli) Panarello. He was a member of St. Cornelius Church in Chadds Ford. Known to all as Chubby, he attended Upper Chichester High School, where he discovered one of the loves of his life, football. He graduated from The Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in1956, and for the next 40 years, was the proprietor of Boothwyn Pharmacy. From behind the counter, he cared for the residents of Boothwyn with good medicine and good advice. He knew each of them by name and cared deeply about his customers, his employees and his community.

An avid golfer, he spent many hours out on the course in the company of close friends, and almost as many hours in the clubhouse, where he played a mean game of gin. In mid-life, Chubby discovered skiing in Colorado. He loved fishing among the Florida mangroves, on the lakes of the U.S. and Canada, and in the waters off Delaware. He was a passionate waterfowl hunter and loved the Maryland countryside. His Brookwood Kennel produced field champion beagles. Most of all, Chubby loved his family and his friends, all of whom already miss his inimitable style.
