Oxford Neighborhood Services Center thanks the community for support

Letter to the Editor:

I am reaching out to thank the greater Oxford community for their support of the Neighborhood Services Center’s Christmas programs.

Thanks to the community’s generosity, we were able to brighten the holidays for 128 kids from 61 families with gifts from the Christmas Room.  Additionally, Adopt-a-Family sponsors provided gifts for 112 children from 47 families.

All in all, 240 children who otherwise wouldn’t have gotten Christmas gifts received winter coats, hats, gloves, toys and games, clothing and school essentials.  One grateful mother said, “This program is the only way my kids would get gifts this year.”

Every day, I continue to be astounded by the need in our community -- from families facing eviction or utility shut-offs, to seniors who do not have enough money for both food and medications.  And daily, my faith in our community is reaffirmed by the generosity of the individuals, local businesses, corporations, churches, schools, and foundations that support our work as we help our neighbors meet their most basic needs.

On behalf of the families whose holidays were made a little brighter, thank you for your generosity.
