Serafin String Quartet to play the Kennett Flash Jan. 19

The Serafin Quartet.

The Serafin String Quartet will continue its 2013 performance season on Sun., Jan. 19 with a concert at the Kennett Flash with a collage of music entitled, “Musical Passports to Many Lands.”

The themed concert features an around the world "musical tour" with stops in France, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Russia, China and the U.S., including selections by Mozart, Shostakovich, Dvorak, and Higdon. The Serafins will provide remarks during the concert offering concertgoers, both newcomers to classical music and seasoned chamber music fans, a unique perspective into the works and composers. The concert will begin at 2 p.m. 

Serafin String Quartet has been applauded by audiences around the nation, including sellout crowds at repeat performances in New York City’s Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Serafin String Quartet serves as Quartet in Residence at the University of Delaware and takes its name from master violin maker, Sanctus Serafin, who in 1728 crafted the violin currently played by Kate Ransom.

Naxos will release the Serafin Quartet’s most recent recording in July 2013. Their debut recording in 2010 was hailed by The Strad Magazine for "playing with style and sophistication" and the American Record Guide for "combining true rhythmic precision, beautiful intonation, and beautiful articulation with an excellent sense of balance and deeply satisfying musical phrasing.”

The Kennett Flash is located on 102 Sycamore Alley in Kennett Square. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at door, and are available online at http://www.kennettflash.org.
