MATTHEW MICHAEL HICKEY 

Matthew (Matt) Michael Hickey, 71, of Kennett Square, died suddenly at his home on Nov. 28.

He was the husband of Mary Breslin Hickey, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage. Born in Glen Cove, N.Y., he was a son of the late Dr. Thomas Hickey and the late Ruth Senker Hickey. He attended the University of Pennsylvania and earned degrees from St. John’s University and St. Joseph’s University. He worked for the Chester County Intermediate Unit as director of educational support services for 16 years.  For the past 12 years, he was a proposal specialist for the Chester County Economic Development Council.  He enjoyed meeting and working with business leaders in Chester County. He loved to spend time at his beach house in Lewes, Del., and he and his wife traveled extensively.     

Survivors include, in addition to his wife, one son, Brendan M. Hickey of West Chester; one daughter, Erin Marie Grubb (Brian) of Downingtown; three brothers, Thomas Hickey of Birdsboro, Pa., Anthony Hickey (Sharon) of Asheville, N.C., and Joseph Hickey (Faye) of Asheville, N.C.; three sisters, Kathleen DiSanto of Tampa, Fla., Sheila Elliott (Bruce) of Waterford, Conn., and Christine Iorio (Vinnie) of Vermont.  He also had one grandson, Sean Patrick Hickey, of Nicaragua. He was predeceased by his son, Timothy Finian Hickey, in 2012; and by Matt’s two sisters, Laura and Damian. 

He will be remembered for his beautiful smile, his friendly, outgoing personality, his warmth and generosity and devotion to his family.

A visitation with family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 4, and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 5  at the Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home Inc. (250 W. State St., Kennett Square).  His Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church (212 Meredith St., Kennett Square).  Interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Timothy Finian Hickey Memorial Scholarship, Delaware County Community College Educational Foundation, 901 South Media Line Road, Media, PA 19063.

KATHRYN A. FENSTERMACHER

Kathryn “Kitty” A. Fenstermacher, 83, of Smyrna, Del., passed away on Nov. 27. 

She was born to the late Joseph and Carrie Dunn on March 12, 1930. She was a long time resident of Unionville and Kennett Square prior to moving to Smyrna with her daughter in 2005. Baking was something Kitty loved to do, and she enjoyed sharing all of her desserts and recipes with family and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Harry S. Fenstermacher; and son Harry (Jake) S. Fenstermacher Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl F. O’Neill; daughter-in-law, Linda Fenstermacher; seven grandchildren, Kathryn (Roland) Murphy, Jennifer (Anthony) Willey, Zachary Fenstermacher, Alison (Michael) Fenstermacher-Smith, Hanna Fenstermacher, Kristine Fenstermacher, and Rachel Fenstermacher; and five great-grandchildren.  

Her memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 14 at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Mendenhall, Pa . There will be a visitation with family and friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

EARL  LOUIS  MINOR, SR.

Earl Louis Minor, Sr., 88, of New Castle, Del., passed away on Nov. 28 at Serenity Gardens.  

He was the husband of June Elizabeth Baker Minor, who passed away in 2011, and with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. Born in Ercildoun, Pa., he was the son of the late Abram and Susan Lewis Minor. He was an inspector at Chrysler Corporation in Newark, Del., for 27 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Kelton, Pa., and the UAW Local No. 1183 in Newark, Del. He enjoyed singing, playing the harmonica, traveling, telling stories about the family history, being  with his grandsons and his Yorkies. He was an automobile enthusiast.

He is survived by three sons, Earl Louis Minor, Jr., and his wife Maurisa of West Grove, Gary Allen Minor and his wife Lisa of Newark, Del., and Jay Russell Minor, Sr., and his wife Teresa of Oxford; two daughters, Carolyn Elizabeth Stokes of Bear, Del., and Christine Robin Peebles and her husband Allen of New Castle, Del.; two brothers, Philip T. Minor, Sr., and his wife Marian of Florida, and Ronald A. Minor and his wife Delores of Hampton, Va.; four sisters, Betty L. Bantum of New Castle, Del., Frances Brown  and her husband Harold of Avondale, Corrine V. Walton of Whitehall, Md., and Iris R. Brown of Wilmington; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by one brother, James Ernest Minor; and two sisters, Theresa Jones and Lydia Johnson.

A visitation with family and friends will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Dec. 6 at the Cedars Church of Christ (511 Greenbank Rd., Wilmington, Del.). His funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer, Pa. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Serenity Gardens, 207 Ruth Drive, Middletown, DE 19709.

RICHARD SCHAEFER

Richard Schaefer, 59, of Upland, Pa., passed away on Dec. 1 at the Phoenixville Hospital. 

Born in Chester, Pa., he was the son of the late Theodore and Elizabeth Williams Schaefer. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan who enjoyed watching the Eagles, Phillies and 76ers. He also enjoyed music. 

He is survived by one brother, Theodore J. Schaefer, Jr., of Boothwyn; and one sister, Linda Chew of Oxford. He was preceded in death by a sister, Judith Jacobsen of Georgetown, Del.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 5 at the Oxford Cemetery (220 N. Third St., Oxford). In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693.

ALICE E. MALCHIONE 

Alice E. Malchione, 91, of West Grove, passed away on Nov. 27 at Broomall Manor.  

She was the wife of Paul Malchione, who passed away in 1989, and with whom she shared 48 years of marriage. Born in Minersville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clayton and Elizabeth Williams Zeiler. She was homemaker and was an avid reader, enjoyed playing bingo, and greatly loved being with her  grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Assumption BVM Church in West Grove.

She is survived by one son, James Malchione of Pocopson; two daughters, Joanne Brown and her husband Dennis of Coatesville, and Eileen Love of West Grove; one brother, William Zeiler of Connecticut; two sisters, Blanche Charles and Elizabeth Callaghan, both of Minersville, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A visitation with family and friends will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Dec. 19 at Assumption BVM Church (300 State Rd., West Grove). Her Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
