KONG Giving Tree returns to all Concord Pet Stores

Concord Pet Foods & Supplies is teaming up with KONG Company to brighten the holidays for dogs and cats. Now through Dec. 13, the third annual KONG Giving Tree makes it easy for customers to join in the spirit of giving and help pets in local shelters.

Andy Shepard of KONG explained, “4,025 KONG toys have been donated to area shelter animals since the program began. It’s a great way for people who love their own pets to do something special at the holidays for less fortunate pets.”

Each of the 22 Concord Pet stores has a Christmas tree decorated with dozens of tiny paw print stockings. Inside each stocking is a ticket indicating the price and bar code of a particular KONG dog or cat toy. The prices range from $4.99 to $24.99 and are visible for the customer to select an amount that suits them.  They take the ticket to the counter with their other purchases and the bar code will be scanned.  At that time, the customer can also choose which of the local shelters they would like to receive their gift.

Thirteen shelters in three states will be the recipients of the holiday gifts.  The shelters benefiting are Delaware SPCAs (New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties), Chester and Delaware County SPCAs in Pennsylvania, Faithful Friends, Delaware Humane, CompAnimals, DAAWGS, Response-A-Bull, LaMancha Animal Rescue, Salem County Humane in New Jersey, and House of Hope in Maryland.

Sheppard said, “We selected items that shelters specifically asked for.  Shelters especially like KONG products because they last extremely long time and can be easily sanitized and used for another animal once a pet is adopted; though often the shelters send a pet to its new home with a KONG toy.”

Lindsay Mutschler of Concord Pet added, “We are pleased to once again team up with KONG in the annual KONG Giving Tree Program. Our Moonlight Madness Sale on Dec. 8 is a great opportunity for customers to buy a toy to donate at the same time they are getting great savings on purchases for their own pets.”

The Concord Pet store managers and sales associates agree that their customers have really embraced the KONG Giving Tree program. The stores enjoy a friendly competition as to which one collects the most donations. The Hockessin Square store holds bragging rights as the winners in both 2011 and 2012. As winners all of the store’s sales associates were treated to dinner by KONG.
