The Jennersville YMCA’s Youth Theatre group performs the iconic musical “The Sound of Music” at Penn’s Grove Middle School in Oxford on Dec. 6, 7, and 8.
Based on the book, “The Story of the Trapp Family Singers” by Maria von Trapp, the show is about a young woman who leaves an Austrian convent to become a governess to the seven children of a naval officer widower. “The Sound of Music” contains several popular songs, including "Edelweiss," "My Favorite Things," "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," "Do-Re-Mi," "Sixteen Going on Seventeen," "The Lonely Goatherd," and the title song, "The Sound of Music."
Members of the Youth Theatre, ages 11 to 18, will be performing the show on Dec. 6 and 7 at 7 p.m., and on Dec. 7 and 8 at 2 p.m. Audience members are encouraged to sing along during the 2 p.m. performance on Dec. 7.
The Youth Theatre Academy is open to children ages 5 to 18. Youngsters learn all aspects of theatre, including script reading, voice projection, body expression, choreography, improvisation, costuming and set design. The classes are performance-based and participants perform multiple public performances.
Tickets for all "Sound of Music" performances are on sale at the Jennersville YMCA in West Grove. Tickets for adults are $8 ($6 for ages 12 and younger).
