Run The Grove 5K slated Oct. 19

On Oct. 19, the Fred S. Engle Middle School PTO will host the third annual Run The Grove 5K.

The run is a fundraiser for the PTO, which supports student activities and programs. Start time will be 9 a.m.

“The first two years have been terrific, with over 270 runners last year,” said Traci Kvergas, PTO president. “This year we’re hoping to increase our number even more. This race is all about kids and families running and walking together. We’re trying to promote health and running, raise money for the school and increase community spirit.”

All 5K participants will receive a T-shirt and a bag filled with a variety of giveaways. Trophies and gift certificates will be awarded to overall and age-group winners; second and third-place finishers will receive medals. The race features more than 30 trophies and medals for top finishers between the ages of 10 and 19.

A unique feature of Run The Grove is that the race will finish on the track inside the Avon Grove High School football stadium, where family and friends can cheer from the bleachers. The Fun Run will also take place on the track.

“It’s great to be able to use the stadium for an event like this,” Kvergas said. “We think it helps make our race a little different. Also, the runners told us how much they enjoyed running on the closed streets

around the school. It’s a rare opportunity.”

The 5K race will begin on School House Road and end inside the stadium off of State Road.
