In the Aug. 14 issue of the Chester County Press, we included a list of treatment facilities and outreach programs where people battling addiction can turn. Churches can also play a vital role in helping someone overcome an addiction, and numerous churches in the offer programs to help.

The Willowdale Chapel is one such church, with a program called “Celebrate Recovery” that utilizes a Christ-centered, 12-step approach to open the door to healing. The goal of the program is to help people grow spiritually and replace addictive, compulsive, or dysfunctional behaviors with more healthy behaviors.

Every Monday night at 6:45 p.m., there are ten different groups in Willowdale Chapel’s Worship Center: a newcomer’s group; a chemical dependency group for men; a chemical dependency group for women; a life issues group for men; a life issues group for women; a recovery from abuse group for women; a codependency group for women; a codependency group for men; a sexual integrity group for men; an adult children of family dysfunction group for women; and recovery from anger and control issues group for men.

These groups offer people the opportunity to share their experiences and hopes with others going through the same recovery process in a safe environment.

Anyone who would like to experience the healing that “Celebrate Recovery” offers are invited to attend a group session.

Every Monday night the Willowdale Chapel also hosts “The Landing,” which is a new ministry for students between the sixth and twelfth grades who are dealing with habits or hurts that are holding them back. This is a safe place where students can talk in confidence about whatever is on the minds or in their hearts with other group participants.
