Oxford Educational Foundation holds mentor-tutor picnic
● Published by ACL
For the second year in a row, rains did not dampen the spirits of the students and adults who came to Nottingham Elementary School as the Oxford Educational Foundation held its annual end-of-year picnic for volunteers and students in the Foundation’s Mentoring and Tutoring Program in the Oxford Area School District. Mentors and tutors, many of them senior citizens, joined the students in sharing pizza and playing games. Mentors meet on a regular basis with one student who seems to be in need of adult support and advice. Tutors work on a regular basis with one or two children who are having problems with reading, writing, mathematics, or some other subject. Anyone interested in volunteering as a mentor or tutor for an Oxford student may call the Oxford Educational Foundation at 610-932-7200. Shown enjoying the picnic are former Superintendent of Schools Dr. Raymond Fischer, now executive director of the Educational Foundation, tutors Stephanie and Tom DeMott and students, from left, Janely Diaz, Chase Glasco, Joey DiFabrizio, Sean Mines and James Haldaway.
