Mushroom Festival’s Amateur Mushroom Cook-off features appetizers this year
There are all sorts of ways mushrooms are used in cooking. Therefore the 2013 Mushroom Festival Amateur Cook-Off this year will feature an appetizer cook-off instead of the traditional soup cook-off.
“We are trying something different this year,” said Jen Basciani, chairperson of the annual amateur cooking competition. “We're challenging our amateurs to create an appetizer-sized portion of their best mushroom recipe.”
Six finalists will be selected to prepare their recipes during the Mushroom Festival. The Cook-Off will take place in Special Events Tent on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 10:30 a.m.
The first place winner receives $500 and a plaque. Plaques are also awarded to second and third place winners. The winning recipe will be featured on the Mushroom Festival's website and in various publications.
The deadline to enter is July 31. Complete rules and regulations are available on the Mushroom Festival's website: mushroomfestival.org. Look for the link on the homepage under the “Amateur Cook-Off” banner.
“We're excited to see what creative recipes are entered for this year's cook-off,” said Basciani. “It promises to be a great competition.”
