Avondale resident Jonathan Markowski gave his final report to the Fraklin Township Board of Supervisors on Sept. 18, putting the finishing touch on a project that has brought him close to achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
Markowski's project was to construct a freestanding bulletin board near the township building's parking lot, so that community organizations and local government officials can put up public notices. The sturdy wood-frame board has a small shingled roof to protect the enclosed case from the elements.
Markowski also built a drop box that will be put up near the entrance to the township building where papers can be safely left after the office is closed.
In his remarks to the supervisors, Markowski said, "I'd like to acknowledge everybody who helped out --the FSA volunteer help, Troop 10 Scouts, as well as my family. The project took approximately 200 hours total. This included the design work, planning, and the labor. Franklin Township gave me $500 to spend. I spent $465 of it to buy materials. Lowe's gave a $100 grant that I used to buy glass and the framework for the bulletin board, and my family donated $45. Thanks for the opportunity to do this project."
Board of Supervisors chairman John Auerbach signed papers signifying that Markowski had completed the project. The papers will be submitted to officially secure the rank of Eagle Scout. And said, "Thank you for your project. I was looking at it last week. It's a very nice design and a very nice project. Thanks."
Markowski lives with is family in Avondale and attends Avon Grove High School. He's considering attending the University of Delaware or West Chester University to study engineering.
