Fight breast cancer at Wine Trail event

The eight wineries of the Brandywine Valley Wine Trail will hold their annual Harvest Festival Celebration on Sept. 28 and 29, and Oct. 5 and 6.

Each year, the Wine Trail celebrates the beginning of the grape harvest season with wine tastings, food and live music. Other activities include hayrides, a corn maze, tours, horseshoes and bocce.

During the festival, patrons can take part in traditional grape stomps at each winery on Oct. 5 at 2 or 4 p.m. Karen Cline, administrator for the Wine Trail, said, “Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re asking participants to donate a minimum of $5 to take part in 'stomping' out breast cancer. We’re encouraging people to bring their friends and stomp together to honor loved ones that have battled breast cancer. ”

All donations from the grape stomping event will benefit two local charities: Living Beyond Breast Cancer of Haverford, Pa., and the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition of Wilmington, Del. In addition, a portion of the purchase price of select wines sold throughout October will benefit the charities.

Passports for the Harvest Festival are $12. Passport holders get wine tastings at their choice of four Brandywine Valley Wine Trail member wineries.
