Grandma Gatewood’s Walk: The Inspiring Story of the Woman Who Saved the Appalachian Trail
Book Discussion
The Henrietta Hankin Branch Library, in partnership with Longwood Gardens, will be hosting a special book discussion on the popular title, Grandma Gatewood’s Walk: The Inspiring Story of the Woman Who Saved the Appalachian Trail by Ben Montgomery. "One person to inspire many" is at the center of the 2016 Longwood Gardens Community Read theme. The title chosen to exemplify this theme is Grandma Gatewood's Walk (2014), the story of an unlikely heroine - a woman who, to escape personal struggles, in 1955, embarks on a journey of several thousand miles of rugged terrain...alone... without any equipment...at the age of 67." Special guests from Eastern Mountain Sports will entertain us with their trials and successes hiking the AT. Please join us for a lively discussion. No hiking boots or sticks necessary! Two attendees will each win a pair of Longwood Garden tickets as a door prize! Registration encouraged.
