Setting the Table: Food Justice, Memory, and Identity
An art exhibition and fundraiser for Free Food For All Delaware.

Food has always been more than sustenance to me; it is a vessel carrying stories of heritage, struggle, and resilience. Growing up in Chicago with Guatemalan roots, I witnessed firsthand how access to nourishing food is intertwined with cultural identity and social justice. This exhibition is a personal exploration of that intersection.
In my work, I delve into the concept of food justice, emphasizing not just the availability of food, but its accessibility and cultural relevance. Reflecting on my experiences with poverty, I aim to highlight how systemic barriers can sever communities from their culinary traditions, impacting both health and cultural continuity.
Each piece in this collection serves as a narrative thread, weaving together memories of shared meals, the warmth of family gatherings, and the stark realities of food injustice.Through vibrant colors and symbolic imagery, I invite viewers to reflect on their own food narratives and consider the broader implications of food policies on marginalized communities.
By setting this table, I hope to foster a dialogue about reclaiming food sovereignty, honoring our ancestors through traditional cuisines, and building a future where everyone has a seat and a voice in the feast of life.
