The Elusive Bog Turtle and Friends

Most people have never encountered the secretive and rare bog turtle (Glyptemys muhlenbergii).

As a bog turtle biologist, Amy has nearly 20 years’ experience surveying for this endangered turtle and monitoring populations. Amy will share her knowledge of the bog turtle’s life history, habitat requirements, threats, and monitoring methods. Identifying characteristics of other semi-aquatic turtles that share their wetland habitat will also be covered. The class will visit Mt. Cuba’s ponds to look for basking turtles and see a demonstration of radio telemetry.

This program takes place in person at Mt. Cuba Center Friday, June 23, 2023.

About the Instructor: Amy Nazdrowicz, PWS is a Professional Wetland Scientist and Qualified Bog Turtle Surveyor with Landmark Science & Engineering. Amy holds a Master of Science in Wildlife Ecology and is a Certified Habitat Steward with the Delaware Nature Society
