Charlie Price is struggling after inheriting his father's shoe factory, and needs to diversify his staid and conservative product if he wants to keep the business afloat. While in London on a business trip he rescues Lola from a band of drunken hoodlums and discovers that Lola is actually Simon - and a drag queen. Charlie gets the idea of designing and making shoes and boots exclusively fitted to drag queens. Lola joins Charlie back at the factory and the two need to overcome employee resistance, Charlie’s fiance disapproving of the business change, and a Milan fashion show deadline. Chiwetel Ejiofor (Lola/Simon) was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor - Motion PIcture Musical or Comedy, and the show went on to Broadway fame with the Lola/Simon role going to Billy Porter.
