From our lens: Portrait of a canine hero

09/27/2023 03:04PM ● By Richard Gaw

Inspired by a recent photo that quickly went global, local artist LouLou Clayton is currently working on a portrait of Yoda, the four-year-old Belgian Malinois male who assisted in the capture of Danelo Cavalcante, the convicted convict who escaped from the Chester Couty Prison on Aug. 31 and spent two weeks in hiding until he was apprehended by authorities on Sept. 13. Upon completion of the portrait, Clayton will gift it to the U.S. Border Patrol Sector Canine Unit from Detroit, Mich., the keepers of Yoda who assisted in Cavalcante’s capture in South Coventry Township. She will also provide a similar portrait of the canine to the children of Deborah Brandão, who was killed by Cavalcante in 2021.
