Obituaries for the week of May 1

of Oxford, passed away at home on April 15, 2023. She was 85.

Born in Chester County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Angie Kilgore Boyd.

Yvonne was a long-standing member of Nottingham Presbyterian Church and, over the years, she served as an elder and deacon and also directed the church choir.

She was a beloved teacher and chorus accompanist, and Yvonne dedicated 30 years working at the Oxford Area School District Intermediate School and then Elk Ridge School before retiring in 1997. She later returned to the classroom to substitute teach for many years. Her firm-but-kind approach had a positive impact on multiple generations of students in the area.  

Yvonne was an avid reader, good cook, and music enthusiast. She enjoyed bowling, going out for breakfast or ice cream, beach vacations, as well as spending time with family and friends. Her quick wit and unwavering willingness to help others will be missed. 

Yvonne is survived by her daughter, Karen Feeney (Ed Quinn) of Oaklyn, NJ; a son, Michael F. Feeney (Linda) of Oxford; two grandchildren, Rachael Feeney and Michael D Feeney; sister-in-law, Drusilla Boyd of TX; a niece, Wendi Threlkeld (Bryan) of TX; and a nephew, Eric Boyd, of AR.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Fred Boyd.  

A public service in celebration of her life will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Nottingham Presbyterian Church, 497 W. Christine Road in Nottingham.  

A funeral reception will be held immediately afterward in the Foundation Room of the Nottingham Presbyterian Church. 

Interment will be at 3 p.m. at the Nottingham Cemetery.

Larry J. King

Larry J. King, 79, of West Grove, passed away on April 15, 2023 at his home.

Born in Havre de Grace, Md., he was the son of the late Ruth King Bard.

He is survived by five siblings, Michele Clark of Provo, UT, Vickie Stoud of Griffin, GA, Rodney Bard of Coatesville, Susan Bard of Nottingham and Michael Bard of Oxford.

Funeral services were held on April 24 at the Edward L. Collins, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. in Oxford.

Interment will be in Oxford Cemetery.

Rhonda Sue Mattson


Rhonda Sue Mattson, of Cochranville, passed away on April 14, 2023 at Chester County Hospital in West Chester. She was 48.

Born in Elkton, Md., she was the daughter of William, Jr. and Anna Sue King Mattson of Cochranville.

Rhonda loved animals, flowers, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her parents; one brother, Kevin Mattson (Joanna) of Cochranville; one niece, Victoria Mattson; one nephew, Austin Mattson; husband Kent Breiner; aunts and uncles, Doug and Debbie King, Patty (Wayne) Barker, David and Jean Mattson; Darlene and Art Ianni, Richie and Jeanie Mattson; five cousins, Sandy, Kelly, Brandy, Amber and Cassie. Rhonda will also be greatly missed by extended family and friends.

Services are private.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Abramson Cancer Center in Chester County Hospital and Rhonda’s home care team, Cindy and Susan.

Henry C. “Chuck” Chilcott, Jr.

Henry C. “Chuck” Chilcott, Jr., age 87, of West Grove, passed away on April 25, 2023 at Jenner’s Pond. 

He was the husband of Marie Caruso Chilcott, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.

Born in Bryn Mawr, Pa., he was the son of the late Henry C. Chilcott and the late Margaret O’Neil Chilcott.

Chuck was a mechanical engineer, and he retired from the DuPont Co. in Wilmington, Del. He served his country in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

He enjoyed woodworking and being with his family and friends.

Chuck was a member of Assumption BVM Church in West Grove.

He was predeceased by one sister, Rosetta Glazewski.

His services will be held privately.

Raymond A. Patrick

Raymond A. Patrick, of Oxford, passed away on April 19, 2023 at Christiana Hospital. He was 76.

Born May 10, 1946, in Lancaster, Pa., he was the son of the late Raymond C. and Edna E. Pierce Patrick.

Ray graduated from Oxford Area High School, Class of 1964, and served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He was retired from Oxford Plumbing & Heating.


He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sheila Pinno Patrick, his mother, Edna E. Patrick, his father, Raymond C. Patrick, and two brothers, Gwyn C. Patrick Sr. and Gene F. Patrick.

He is survived by his son, Vernon J. Patrick (Katy) and Kelly L. Wilson (Patrick); five grandchildren, Emma Patrick, Ava Patrick, Victoria Wilson, Carolyn Wilson, and Benjamin Wilson; two brothers, Terry Patrick (Glenda) and Ronald Patrick (Susan); and two sisters, Brenda Holston (Lawrence), Sandra Slauch (John).

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Legion Mason Dixon Post 194 Honor Guard in Rising Sun, Md.

Donna Parnell Rutledge

Donna Parnell Rutledge, 78, of Oxford, passed away at her home on April 24, 2023.

She was the wife of the late James Doyle Rutledge, Jr., with whom she shared 40 years of marriage. 

Born in Vicksburg, MS she was the daughter of the late Henry and Vera Strickland Parnell.

Donna was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Greenville, MS. She was also a book club and garden club member.

She enjoyed bike riding with her neighbors, going to church, and spending time with friends and family.

She is survived by one daughter, Angela (Bill) Meredith of Oxford; one son, Stephen T. Rutledge of Greenville, MS; three grandchildren, Amy Lauren Meredith, Taylor Meredith and Landon Meredith all of Oxford; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Bobbie Gail Pender and two sisters-in-law, Frances Towles and Lynette Donaldson.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Victor E. Leto

Victor E. Leto, age 95, of Kennett Square, passed away on April 24, 2023 at Chester County Hospital in West Chester. 

Born in Kennett Square, he was the son of the late Oreste Leto Sr. and the late Jennie Sicco Leto.  Victor lived in the same childhood home throughout his life.

Victor graduated from Kennett High School, Class of 1945. He then started college at Penn State University but was drafted into the Army during World War II, serving our country from 1945 to 1947.  He then returned to Penn State University and earned his degree from the School of Agriculture in 1950.

After college Victor started a large poultry business on the family farm, operating that for several years. He then established and operated a successful mushroom growing business.  Victor stayed abreast of advances in that industry, frequently attending post-graduate courses and seminars in the U.S. and abroad.

He enjoyed deer hunting and was an avid trout fisherman. He was a member of Shellbark Lodge, located in Lycoming County, Pa., where he not only hunted and fished, but made lifelong friendships with other members.

An accomplished pilot, Victor loved flying. He joined a group of local men who started the Kennett Flying Club in 1947.  The Club purchased a two-passenger Ercoupe, which they flew from a small field in New Garden Township where the Giant store is now located.

Even more than all his accomplishments, Victor was known for his extremely kind, encouraging and generous nature.  Always willing to lend his support, he was a constant, loyal caregiver to parents and siblings for 50 years. His nieces and nephews all have fond memories of time spent with their special uncle.

Victor is one of 10 brothers and sisters. He is survived by one brother, Robert Leto and his wife Kay of Kennett Square, and 15 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph, Charles, Oreste “Tino” Jr, and Frederick and four sisters, Rosalie, Mary, Hilda Smith and Sylvia Fawcett.

You are invited to visit with Victor’s family and friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday May 13 at Church of the Advent, 401 N. Union St. in Kennett Square. His funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Cathedral Cemetery in Wilmington, Del.
