Let the record show that the weather in West Grove on April 29, 2016 was not conducive for the celebration of all things natural, but that did not stop Steve and Marna Goddard from attending Arbor Day ceremonies in London Grove Township. Indeed, they probably felt an extra obligation to do so, given that the event was held in a park that is named for them.
Armed with shovels, the Goddards were part of a contingent that planted six new additions to Goddard Park – three white oak trees donated by the township, and three sycamore trees donated by township supervisor Mike Pickel.
Sponsored by the township's Parks and Recreation Board of Directors as a way to kick off this year's public events at the park, the event featured a presentation of the colors by Cub Scout Pack #54; an introduction by Parks and Recreation board member Eric Schott; and a reading of the proclamation declaring April 29 as Arbor Day in London Grove Township by Dave Connors, vice chairman of the township's board of supervisors.
“I urge all citizens to celebrate Arbor Day and support efforts to protect our trees and woodlands,” Connors said. “I urge all citizens to plant trees to gladden the heart and promote the well-being of all of us, as well as future generations.”
