Joseph's People

The Parish Life Center of ABVM's Church (300 State Rd., West Grove) will be the site of a meeting of Joseph's People on Sept. 24 at 6:45 p.m. The support group is for unemployed or underemployed people. The guest speaker will be Christine Zaccarelli, staff attorney at Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania. She will discuss unemployment compensation, bankruptcy, credit card collections and mortgage foreclosures, and highlight the services offered by Legal Aid in these matters. Sept. 27
'Zumbathon' for charity
Grove United Methodist Church (490 W. Boot Rd., West Chester) and HomeAID for Africa host a "Zumbathon" to raise funds for orphans in Africa on Sept. 27. Beginning at 3 p.m., participants can come for 90 minutes of tag-team Zumba led by a variety of area Zumba instructors. For information, e-mail [email protected] or visit www.homeaidforafrica.org.

 

Sept. 27
Buffet breakfast
Oxford United Methodist Church (18 Addison St., Oxford) hosts an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet on Sept. 27 from 7 to 10 a.m. There will be buttermilk pancakes, French toast, scrambled eggs, fruit, sausage and bacon, oven-roasted potatoes, dried beef gravy and specialty breads. Proceeds benefit the church's general fund. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for ages 3 to 10. Call 610-932-9698 for more information.

 

Sept. 28
Ice cream social
Grove United Methodist Church (490 W. Boot Rd., West Chester) hosts a free ice cream social on Sept. 28 from 3 to 5 p.m., open to everyone. There will be children's activities as well. Call 484-459-9260 or visit www.grovechurch.org.

 

Oct. 3 and 4

Rummage sale

West Grove United Methodist Church (300 N. Guernsey Rd., West Grove) will hold their semi-annual rummage sale on Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to noon. On Saturday, visitors can fill a paper bag with items for $2 per bag. Donations of gently used household goods, adult clothing, books, crafts and more are being accepted at the church from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 1 to 4. The sale is held inside. Oct. 17 and 18

Murder Mystery Tours

The Friends of Hibernia County Park will hold an evening of “Iron Plantation Chef” on Oct. 17 and 18, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Hibernia Mansion (in Hibernia County Park, Wagontown, off the Route 82 exit of the Route 30 Bypass).  During the murder mystery evening, chefs will beparticipating in a cooking contest to see who can claim the title of Iron Plantation Chef. Unfortunately, the competition came to a grinding halt when someone was discovered dead. Visitors can help figure out whodunnit to win tickets to  the Candlelight Tour in December. All are welcome to enjoy free refreshments in the ballroom after the tour. Tickets are $5 per person and benefit the Friends of Hibernia. Call 610-383-3812 for more information.

 

Oct. 22

'Nurturing Parents'

A "Nurturing Parents" workshop will be held at Grove United Methodist Church (490 W. Boot Rd., north of West Chester) each week from 9 to 10:15 a.m. The free classes are open to all parents of young children. Taught by preschool director Melissa Bechtel and  education director Patti Klotz, each class uses an interactive approach to learning positive parenting practices and philosophies. Oct. 25

'Trunk or Treat'

All children up to and including second grade are invited to the annual “Trunk or Treat” free event at Grove United Methodist Church (490 W. Boot Rd., north of West Chester) on Oct. 25 from 5 to 6 p.m. The event takes place in the parking lot, where cars with decorated trunks will be set up with treats for children. Other children’s activities are available. For more information, visit www.grovechurch.org.
