09/03/2014 06:55PM ● By Lev

The Unionville Community Fair Queen Pageant will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at the Unionville Elementary School. During the pageant, the queen, queen alternate, the princess and princess alternate each receive a monetary scholarship. The 2014 Unionville Community Fair Queen is also eligible to participate at the PA State Fair convention in January at the Hershey Convention Center.

Each of the young women competing for queen must submit an essay, be interviewed by judges, and present to the audience during the pageant a five-minute talk titled “Why You Should Come to My Fair.”  There is no charge to attend the pageant, which begins at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at the Unionville Elementary School Auditorium. It is an opportunity for the contestants to experience the interviewing process, practice poise, and learn presentation skills. The deadline for essays is Sept. 12 with the requirement that contestants live in the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District boundaries and be between ages 16 and 20 years of age.  For full rules and information on both the Queen Pageant and the Princess Pageant, visit the Unionville Community Fair web site at www.ucfairinc.org.

Leading up to the pageant, a flapjack breakfast fundraiser is slated for Applebee’s in Kennett Square on Saturday, Sept. 13. Breakfast is served from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and tickets are $7 per person or $5 for children's tickets.  Pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee are included.  Tickets are available at the door or at [email protected].
