The Avon Grove softball team, coming off a 5-0 victory in the opening round of the PIAA Class AAAA state playoffs – highlighted by a perfect game tossed by sophomore star Maggie Balint – were defeated by Parkland 3-0 on June 5 in the quarterfinal round.

Led by pitcher Morgan Rentzheimer's one-hitter, the 25-0 Trojans jumped on Balint early, with one run in the first and two more in the fifth.

Rentzheimer, who recorded six strikeouts on the day, did not allow a hit until Taylor Volko reached on an infield single in the fifth.

Avon Grove finished their season at 20-5, highlighted by becoming the first softball team in school history – and in the history of Chester County – to win a District 1 championship, which they did by defeating North Penn 4-2 on May 29.
