Girl Scout Junior Troop 451 members, along with parents, volunteers from the Oxford Area High School Helping Hands Club, Oxford Area Recreation Authority board members and their families, took part in a work day at the park on April 12.

The group cleared dead branches, cut brush, picked up trash and mulched plants to help get the park ready for spring. The scout troop also provided flowers that they planted at the edges of a rain garden to add early color to the park.

The Oxford Area Regional Park, at 900 Locust St. in Oxford, offers walking trails, a baseball field, a multipurpose field, picnic tables and a pavilion.

Around the corner on Oaks Road, work was done clearing dead tree branches and trash. That parcel is the next area set for development at the park. A bridge across the creek is in the planning stages, with plans for more trails and a natural playground. Funding for improvements is provided by member municipalities and grants. The latest grants for the bridge project include funds from the Walmart Foundation and the E. Kneale Dockstader Foundation.
