SHOTS FIRED

New Garden Police arrested a Wilmington man for firing a handgun out of his truck window on March 15.

According to a police report, an officer in the 1400 block of Baltimore Pike in Toughkenamon heard four shots from a nearby residential area at 2:20 a.m. He saw a black Chevy Avalanche leaving the area, and stopped the truck at Church and Center streets. The driver, Jose Pizano-Ortiz, 30, of Wilmington, Del., showed signs of intoxication. On the front seat were spent .40 caliber shell casings, and a semiautomatic handgun was wedged between the front passenger seat and the center console. An open bottle of liquor was in the console.

The gun's 12-round magazine was found to be empty. The gun was unregistered and Pizano-Ortiz does not have a permit to carry a firearm. He was arraigned on charges of DUI, carrying a firearm without a license, and recklessly endangering another person. He was taken to Chester County Prison after failing to pay $35,000 cash bail. The report did not indicate why Pizano-Ortiz was firing the gun.

ASSAULT ARRESTS

Kennett Square police arrested Maurice Reyes, 40, of Kennett Square, for aggravated assault and other charges after an incident that occurred on March 8 at 3:20 a.m. in the 100 block of North Walnut Street. He was unable to post $50,000 cash bail and was taken to Chester County Prison.

Kennett Square police arrested Rufino Victorino, 39, of Kennett Square, for simple assault and other charges after an incident on March 5 at 9:15 p.m. in the 100 block of North Willow Street. He was arraigned and released on $3,000 unsecured bail.

DUI

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale arrested Jose Armando Hernandez-Berrios, 21, of Lincoln University, for DUI on March 15 after he was stopped for speeding on Route 1 south in London Grove Township. He was found to be DUI and in possession of drug paraphernalia.

Pennsylvania State PoliceAvondale arrested Christopher James Logan, 29, of Oxford, for DUI on March 16 on Route 1 south in New Garden Township. He was stopped for speeding and discovered to be DUI.

Kennett Square police arrested Fermin Gomez-Castillo, 18, of Wilmington, Del., for driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop on March 4 at 12:35 a.m. in the 400 block of West State Street. He was released to a relative pending a summons from District Court.
