Longwood Rotary gala goes around the world

01/15/2014 08:06PM ● By Acl

The Longwood Rotary Club's “Around the World Gala,” scheduled March 22, will turn the Longwood Gardens Conservatory into an international adventure with entertainment and food from all over the globe.

The evening's entertainment features African drum music by the Griots Wa Umoza drumming quartet, Chinese lion dancers from the Chinese American Community Center Dragon and Lion Dancers Club, and Spanish flamenco dancing by the award-winning Ramon de los Reyes Spanish Dance Theatre.

Guests will enjoy dinner stations featuring foods from Brazil, Mexico, Spain, France, Australia, Africa, Mongolia, Japan and Korea. There will be a DJ, and guests can bid at the silent auction featuring original art, sports tickets and memorabilia, jewelry, wine collections, vacation homes and gift baskets.

Funds raised are invested primarily in the local community. In 2013, more than $50,000 was allocated to projects and to local non-profit organizations. Longwood Rotary Club was the principal contributor to the new Anson B. Nixon Park playground in Kennett Square. Significant funds were also donated to the Kennett Area Food Cupboard, The Garage youth program, the Kennett Area Senior Center, the Kennett Area YMCA Good Kids Campaign, Camp Dreamcatcher, and other causes.
