Oxford Presbyterian spreads holiday cheer

More than 170 area families had a happy holiday thanks to the volunteers from the Oxford Presbyterian Church, who made up Christmas Food Boxes last month.
A committee at the church worked since September on the annual project. Local merchants provided some financial support, and the church's congregation, local schools, OPC Preschool and Boy Scout Troop 213 collected canned goods.
More than 100 people turned out on the week of Dec. 15 to sort the food and pack the boxes in the church's fellowship hall. Herr's donated boxes and pretzels. Flower's Bakery donated bread. Pat's Pizza sent free pizza to the workers, and the Chester County Food Bank provided 2,298 pounds of turkeys.
Families are selected to receive the boxes through the Neighborhood Services Center.
