Letter to the Editor:

This New Year's Eve will see a new celebration take place in Kennett Square. A drop of a mushroom along with street festivities will help us ring in the new year.

The Mushroom Festival and the Kennett Area Merchants Association have come together to sponsor and coordinate this event. We are excited about their enthusiasm and desire to create a family-friendly event in our town. Our community has a great reputation for putting on successful events—from the Mushroom Festival to the Brew Fest to the Kennett Run to the Memorial Day Parade—where families can enjoy celebrating together.

As with any new event, the New Year's Eve celebration has had several changes from what was initially planned. We support the changes and are looking forward to a great evening for all who participate.

We want to assure everyone that we are working diligently with the event organizers to create an atmosphere that will be fun and safe. Our goal is to provide adequate support services from Public Safety to Public Works. While we are no the event organizers, we do want to ensure that our residents and visitors have a great experience on New Year's Eve and we are continuing to evaluate the plan and make recommendations as needed.

We will make sure that adequate public safety and public works resources are available for the event. Additionally, the event is designed to be family-friendly and will continue to enforce all appropriate alcohol and conduct ordinances to maintain a level of safety—and fun.

Answers to questions about the New Year's event can be found on the Midnight in the Square Facebook page: Facebook.com/midnightinthesquare. We hope that everyone who joins us will have a great time and we look forward to seeing you on New Year's Eve.
