It's not enough that sisters Tammy Liberato and Julie Wehner's Flickerwood Winery location on State Street in Kennett Square has become one of the coziest spots on the local scene. Now they've taken their act to Oxford.

As part of the Country Christmas celebration in Oxford on Dec. 6, Flickerwood Winery officially opened its third Pennsylvania location with a friendly ribbon-cutting ceremony before family and friends. In addition to its locations in Kennett Square and Oxford, Flickerwood has a wine tasting room in Kane, Pa. (where the winery is located), as well as a tasting room in Avalon, N.J.

“Julie and I live in Oxford with our families, and when we first thought about bringing a presence to Chester County, we considered Oxford as our first location,” Liberato said. “We already sell our wine at the local farmers' market and at a few Oxford restaurants, and have great, supportive friends in the area. We're invested in Oxford, so we figured this was a great time for us.”

In addition to serving Flickerwood wine by the glass, bottle, or tasting, the Oxford location will host live music, special tastings and collaborate with restaurants and businesses. It features a line of Pennsylvania-made cheeses, chocolates, and gourmet cookies, as well as baked goods and jams made with Flickerwood wines.

Expanding to Oxford is the latest development for Flickerwood, but it's being done in concert with an initiative coordinated by Oxford Mainstreet, Inc., to recruit new businesses to town. Liberato has served on the Oxford Economic Development Committee for about a year, and said she has seen cooperation among Oxford landlords to work with merchants who are considering setting up shop in the historic downtown.

“It's become a reciprocal relationship, one that allows everyone to benefit,” Liberato said.

The Flickerwood Winery is at 33 S. Third St., Oxford. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays, the tasting room is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from noon p.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 610-932-9498.
