New Year's Eve in the Mushroom Capital

12/12/2013 03:13PM ● By Acl

Poem by Jack McCloskey

At midnight on New Year's Eve

The world will for the first time see

A lowly fungus, delicious and edible

Accomplish something truly incredible

A seven hundred pound mushroom of steel

Will descend from the midnight sky

As worldwide church bells peal

And we ponder resolutions—you and I

From the Philippines to Kennett Square

People will rise and cheer

This symbol of food for the hungry

and also world peace in this year.

We are happy to share the limelight

With the Great Times Square Ball

Kennett Square's gift to the world

A Happy New Year to all
