It took only 10 minutes to finalize a new lineup for the Unionville-Chadds Ford School Board on the evening of Dec. 2.
During a meeting in the district office public conference room, Eileen Bushelow acted as temporary president to swear in new board members Carolyn Daniels, Michael Rock and Steven Simonson. They will join returning board members Jeff Hellrung, Keith Knauss, Kathleen Do, Victor Dupuis and Gregg Lindner, along with Bushelow.
The board unanimously voted to elect Dupuis as the new school board president. There were no other candidates. The board also voted to elect Lindner as board vice-president. Lindner received six votes, for a majority against fellow nominee Hellrung.
Hellrung was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Holly Manzone as the Chester County School Authority representative for the district. His term will run through January 2017.
After adjourning the reorganization meeting, the board opened its first official meeting and approved the hiring of a special education teacher for Patton Middle School, effective Dec. 3. The new teacher will be part of the autism support program at the middle school. The position had been previously approved by the board, and the selection of Megan Garvin filled the position.
The board adjourned the special meeting without comments from the school board members or the superintendent.
