An Oxford Area High School alumnus who lettered in three sports has returned to his alma mater to head the Hornet athletic program.

The Oxford Area Board of School Directors recently approved the appointment of Michael Price as athletic director. Price is a 2007 Oxford graduate and a 2013 graduate of California University of Pennsylvania with a degree in sports management, specializing in athletic administration.

Price played center field on the varsity baseball team for four years and helped lead the Hornets to their first District championship and state tournament appearance in his senior year. He was named to the Daily Local News All-Area first team as a senior and the second team as a junior and sophomore.

Price also made the All-Southern Chester County League (SCCL) team in each of his four seasons. In 2008, he coached the junior varsity baseball team before attending college.

Price was a wide receiver and linebacker on the varsity football team for two years, making the All-SCCL second team at linebacker in his junior year.

While basketball was not Price’s top sport, he said the tasks he was assigned by head coach Sean Harvey, who he succeeds as athletic director, proved invaluable in his chosen career.

“Mr. Harvey basically made me an unofficial assistant coach and has always been a mentor to me in life, in my education and career choice,” he said. “I was responsible for keeping all the players focused on everything the coach taught us in practice and off the court as well.”

Price said he is extremely proud to be working in his home school district and looks forward to providing the athletic program and its participants with extensive opportunities to further their education and athletic careers beyond their high school years.

“I feel like I’ve come full circle,” he said. “So many people helped me during my years growing up in Oxford, and now I have an opportunity to help other young men and women succeed. This is just the perfect place for me.”
