Boy Scout Troop 22 in Unionville recently honored its 160th Eagle Scout, Zack R. Bowen IV, at a ceremony held at the Unionville Presbyterian Church.
Zack is the son of Linda Bowen and Zack R. Bowen III, and he recently graduated from Unionville High School. He was the president of LAG, had been both a participant and a staff member in LINK, and he sang in the high-school chorus. He was involved in the tech crew in the high school and participated in various tech crew jobs throughout all four years of high school. He also was involved in an internship at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington, Del., last summer.
For his Eagle Scout project, Zack led a program to teach computer skills to residents of a continuing care facility, Cokesbury Village in Hockessin, Del. He designed, developed and implemented a computer workshop program for Cokesbury residents for eight weeks during the fall of 2012. After developing the class structure, he trained a group of scouts and community volunteers on how to teach computer skills to the elderly. He directed the program by leading the scouts and volunteers to instruct an eight-week computer workshop for the residents.
The program served to teach and encourage computer use among the residents, and had the added benefit of encouraging inter-generational communication between the retirement community residents and the younger scout and volunteers.
