Tavern Talks: Very Superstitious! Fears, False Notions & Fables
What superstitions do you believe in? On October 13th from 7-9 pm at the Chadds Ford Historical Society’s Barns-Brinton House tavern, come explore various fears, lore and haunted tales from the Colonial era.
A sampling of activities for the evening include performances by Colonial magician Levram the Great, fortune telling, ghost stories, superstitions and other surprises you’ll just have to attend to unearth. Special guests The Prana House will demonstrate why female healers were often thought to be witches. And what better setting for this than a 300-year-old potentially haunted tavern!
Tavern Talks is a monthly experience (not a lecture!) aimed exclusively for adults 21 and older that focuses on unexplored aspects of early American history and culture. Guests will experience history with hands-on activities, food and drink tastings, demonstrations, and more. Tavern Talks takes place at the Chadds Ford Historical Society’s Barns Brinton House, an historic 1714 tavern, located next to the Chaddsford Winery at 630 Baltimore Pike. Admission is $15 for non-members and $10 for members. Tickets must be purchased in advance over the phone, in person or online as space is limited. All attendees must be 21 and older.
Interested in what other topics we will be covering this year? Our final Tavern Talks for 2016 is on November 10 on the topic of “All Things Apple!” Stay tuned for next year’s line-up of other interesting and engaging topics.
