Bugs & Butterflies Festival
Bugs & Butterflies Festival
Sunday, August 21, 2016. 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Rain or shine.
From 10 am to 2 pm, visitors can tour the purpose-built, 1,400 square foot Butterfly House, where they’ll experience native caterpillars and butterflies first hand. Depending on the season, butterfly species can include: Great Spangled Fritillaries; Eastern Tailed Blues; Monarchs, and Spicebush Swallowtails.
This year’s Bugs & Butterflies Festival also includes the Amazing Arthropods Touch Table from The Academy of Natural Sciences, where visitors can see or hold their favorite arthropod friends.
At Pieter’s Apiary, honey fans are encouraged to ‘get the buzz’ on honey, with a demonstration beehive in which visitors are invited to find the queen. And for food fans, the range of fun and family-friendly food trucks includes: The Meat Wagon, Pitruco Pizza, and Little Baby’s Ice Cream Cart.
With craft stations for smaller children, picnic tables, 17 miles of trails to explore, and Tyler’s meadows, gardens, goats, and woodlands to experience, this year’s Bugs & Butterflies Festival presents visitors of all ages with informative, educational insight into gardens in nature, and into ways to attract butterflies to their own back yards.
