Vintage Base Ball Day at Strasburg Rail Road

Take a steam train ride back in time at Strasburg Rail Road May 14 and enjoy an afternoon of vintage base ball. In addition to a 45-minute ride through 1,000 acres of Lancaster County countryside, passengers will disembark at Verdant View Farm where the Rising Sun BBC and Harrisburg Keystones are scheduled to begin tournament play at noon. Witness 19th century style base ball, which emphasized exercise, camaraderie and the skill of playing with bare hands instead of gloves. Trains will operate throughout the afternoon, so visitors can return to East Strasburg Station at their leisure. To catch the first pitch, ride the 11 a.m. train. Access is by train only, and guests must walk across farmed ground similar to what fans of the game would have experienced over a century ago. Restroom facilities and food vendors are on site. Limited bench seating is available. Guests are invited to bring blankets or compact lawn chairs. See the website for additional details. Trains depart at 11 a.m., and on the hour between noon and 3 p.m. Open Air Car tickets are $11 ages 2-11 and $17 ages 12 and up. Coach Car tickets are $9 ages 2-11 and $15 ages 12 and up.
