Art in the Ark: Drawing and Sketching in the Zoo
Ages: 9 and older, plus parents
Spend the morning as a family learning how to sketch live animals from professional art teacher Deanna Peacock! This workshop is appropriate for families who want to learn to draw animals together. Beginning artists will get instruction on basic drawing skills, while more experienced artists can hone their sketching skills by using live animals as a source of inspiration! Enjoy the first 30 minutes of learning in the classroom, followed by the next 1.5 hours drawing live education animals up close in our education classroom, or move out into the zoo at your leisure (before it opens to the public!) to sketch some of our exhibit animals. Students are required to bring a 9"x12" sketch book, drawing pencils, and eraser. Age appropriate materials substitutions are fine.
Optional additional materials- A sharpener and a container for pencil shavings is handy to have. For those who want to explore other drawing medium, charcoal pencils, white chalk, colored pencils, and pastels are good choices for drawing outside on site. Remember to keep your materials portable and chose items your comfortable working with.
Fee includes zoo admission. Preregistration is required for this event, as we have a limited number of spaces available.
