Shibori is an ancient Japanese fold resist dye technique. Although it is a complete art form on its own, it is also a great introduction to working with dyes on silk and may be incorporated into other dye techniques. Create colorful patterns and painterly designs in Shibori One-Day Workshop. There are no drawing skills necessary only folding, pleating and wrapping. It is good for beginners and also a useful technique for any textile artist. A quilter who would like to use their own one of a kind textiles will find it valuable. Each student will complete at least two silk scarves. Additional scarves available. All materials and supplies included in fee.
Jean-Marie Baldwin attended the Art Institute of Philadelphia on full scholarship. She researched print and dye techniques on fabric and then continued her art studies at Fleischer Art Memorial and the University of the Arts, both located in Philadelphia. Baldwin further developed her techniques while studying silk painting with Michele Marceuse, Shibori with Michael Olshefski at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Batik Painting with Janice Kline at Tyler Park and Batik Painting with Tatiana Eisenhart in Silver Springs, Maryland. Jean-Marie has taught numerous classes and workshops on the East Coast, including the vonLiebig Art Center in Florida; and the Wayne Art Center, Mainline Art Center, Phoenix Village Art Center in Pennsylvania.
