French Creek Iron Tour Bike Ride

Scenic Cycling for Open Space

The 16th Annual French Creek Iron Tour Cycling for Open Space Sunday, June 10, 2018 The Region’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride Cycle through historic Iron Furnace country and have a blast! French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust preserves open space where iron blast furnaces and forges served as cornerstones of industry in colonial Pennsylvania - hence "Iron Tour." When you ride in the French Creek Iron Tour, you have a direct impact on the preservation of the scenic countryside that surrounds you. In 1967, Eleanor and Sam Morris' love of the land in the watersheds of the French and Pickering Creeks guided them to establish French & Pickering. Over the 50 years since its inception, French & Pickering has permanently protected 12,500 acres of agricultural, natural and park lands and created greenways and trails along the two creeks. Historically important lands are included in those 12,500 acres. The Revolutionary War might have had a different outcome if it were not for the many iron furnaces in northern Chester County at that time. French & Pickering has permanently protected the Warwick Furnace that supplied cannonballs to General Washington's army. It is this significant history that gives the French Creek Iron Tour its name. It is not an Ironman event but rather a tribute to the area's impact on the history of our country. The routes of the Iron Tour will take you to the Warwick Furnace, Hopewell Furnace and near the Hibernia Iron Works. With courses ranging from 11 to 100 miles, there's something for everyone. And if you're not a cyclist, volunteer and/or be a sponsor - be a part of the fun. Registration will close at 1600 riders or at 5 p.m., June 7, whichever comes first. There will be no day-of-event registration. Registration is non-refundable, and the ride takes place rain or shine. Registration is $50 until May 25. Thereafter it is $65 and does not include a t-shirt. Children under 15 are free and must be accompanied by a registered adult.
