West Grove was the scene of a heavy police presence on Wednesday afternoon after a man threatened to shoot himself and barricaded himself in a home.

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale issued a report on Thursday morning saying that the 37-year-old unidentified man had threatened suicide, and then ended telephone contact with police. Police secured surrounding homes in the area of 606 Freedom Way in West Grove, arriving with armored vehicles and other equipment. Police with bullet-proof vests, shields and assault rifles patrolled the streets, keeping onlookers away.

Police repeatedly tried to contact the man by phone, but he did not answer. Members of the Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team eventually were able to negotiate with the man, and he surrendered. He was taken to Brandywine Hospital for a mental health evaluation. The incident began just before 2 p.m. and ended just after 7:30 p.m.

Pennsylvania State Police were assisted at the scene by the West Grove Borough Police Department, the West Grove Fire Department and Fire Police.
