Trike racing adds new dimension to Iron Hill Twilight Race Series
07/08/2015 11:40AM ● By J. ChamblessFor most of us, the days of riding a tricycle ended well before our first day at school. On Saturday, Aug. 8, many women and men will return to their three-wheel roots at this year’s Twilight Trike Challenge presented by Tolsdorf Oil Lube Express.
Returning for its second year, this popular addition to the Iron Hill
Twilight Race Series has proven to be a favorite among spectators and
participants alike. Last year, 13 teams faced off against each other.
This year, over 25 teams are expected to compete in this
series of hot-handed, cold-blooded, all-out trike racing down Gay
Street in West Chester.
Any business, organization or group of five, 18 or older, is invited to enter this challenging double-elimination tag-team race, where every team will compete at least twice on the road to victory. Not only will the winning team receive the Twilight Trike Challenge trophy engraved with the team name, each member will be a VIP guest at the Susquehanna Crit Club, located along the race route. There they will enjoy a buffet, drinks and camaraderie while enjoying a prime view of the racing action.
The
Twilight Trike Challenge is just one of many attractions that will make up West Chester’s
popular day of racing action and family-friendly events. The fun
begins with the West Chester Dental Arts Kids' Race and includes the
Avanté Salon Pro Women’s Criterium, Rothman Institute Amateur
Men's Criterium, Community Festival, Kids’ Zone, BMX Stunt Riding
Exhibition and more, climaxing with the Iron Hill Twilight Criterium,
one of the most important professional cycling races on the East
Coast.
Last
year culminated in victory for Team Tolsdorf Oil Lube Express. “I
swear it wasn’t rigged,” said team captain Chris Tolsdorf with a
laugh, answering charges that no one seriously made. He has already
thrown down the gauntlet for this year’s race. Those ready to
answer the challenge can do so by visiting
