Sept. 28

Penn Township Community Picnic

The 9th Annual Penn Township/Jennersville Regional Hospital Community Picnic and Health and Wellness Fair will be held on Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Penn Township Park (250 Lewis Rd., West Grove). The park is located next to the Jennersville Regional Hospital and across from the Southern Chester County YMCA. Admission is free. Entertainment will be provided by Jesse Garron’s Live Elvis Tribute, Philadelphia’s Coast 2 Coast Motown Tribute band, the Philadelphia Union Mobile Tour with its traveling soccer field, Jungle John’s Balloon and Reptile shows, the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders, American Helicopter Museum’s “Stubby” and more. Jennersville Regional Hospital will provide free health and wellness screenings, hospital tours and door prizes. Area nonprofits and services such as Activate!, the Pennsylvania State Police at Avondale, Chester County Sheriff’s Department, Medic 94 and West Grove Fire and Ambulance will be on hand with information for the public.  


Sept. 28

Hootenanny Hoedown

A Hootenanny Hoedown be held Sept. 28 at Plantation Field. Join the Land Conservancy for Southern Chester County at 9 a.m. with a 5K Trail Race over optional obstacles. Supervised kid's activity corner and children's run over obstacles. In the evening, the Hootenanny Hoedown takes place at 6 p.m. with table games, silent auction and 50/50 Chicken Bingo. Oct. 4 to 6

Unionville Fair

The 89th Unionville Community Fair will be held Oct. 4, 5, 6 in the field at routes 926 and 82 in Unionville. From livestock shows to local food, live music and a rodeo, it's the largest display of community agricultural products, handcrafts and arts in the county. Most exhibitors are local residents, competing for ribbons and awards. Highlights include vendor exhibits, arts and crafts, live music, the Fair Queen Pageant, food booths, contests and children's activities. On Oct. 5, the third annual Willowdale Pro Rodeo begins at 6 p.m. Tickets in advance are $15 for ages 12 and older, $10 for ages 4 to 11, free for ages 3 and younger. Visit www.ucfairinc.org.


Oct. 5

Kennett Brewfest

The Kennett Brewfest will be held Oct. 5 from 2 to 6 p.m. The popular event features restaurant specialties, samples of more than 90 regional microbrews, live bands and merchandise to benefit the non-profit Historic Kennett Square. No one under 21 is admitted. Wristbands are sold in advance. Tickets are $45 ($15 for designated driver tickets). Visit www.kennettbrewfest.com.


Oct. 11

Concert at museum

The Brandywine River Museum (Route 1, Chadds Ford) presents a series of concerts in the lobby beginning at 7:30 p.m. The galleries will be open on concert nights from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is $25 ($20 for members). A full bar and small plate foods will be sold. Tickets are available at www.brandywinemuseum.org , or by calling 610-388-8326. The schedule includes: soul, funk and jazz by The Sermon! (Oct. 11).


Oct. 24-26

Great Pumpkin Carve

The The Great Pumpkin Carve will be held Oct. 24, 25 and 26 on the grounds of the Chadds Ford Historical Society Visitors Center. From 5 to 9 p.m. each evening, large, intricately carved pumpkins will be lit with candles and on display for visitors. There will be 60 carvers participating. The event has live music, hayrides and foods for sale.


Nov. 14

Nov. 29 to Jan. 5

'A Brandywine Christmas'

"A Brandywine Christmas" returns to the Brandywine River Museum (Route 1, Chadds Ford) from Nov. 29 to Jan. 5. The annual display has a large antique dollhouse, antique dolls dressed in vintage clothing, a huge model train layout, holiday trees decorated with handmade “critter” ornaments. Open until 9 p.m. on Dec. 5, 12, 19 and 26. Open until 6 p.m. Dec. 27 to 30. Visit www.brandywinemuseum.org.
